Riverfly Monitoring
As part of the Riverfly Partnership, ARK volunteers are regularly monitoring sites on the River Kennet to assess the population of riverflies. Riverfly monitoring is a national initiative to assess the water quality of Britain's rivers and to check for pollution by counting eight groups of key indicator species of invertebrates which live in rivers. The key indicator groups - the three main orders of riverflies as well as freshwater shrimp, are easy to identify after training which we offer at no cost to our volunteers, who can then go on to take responsibility for specific sites.
